Officials say the officer suffered multiple cuts to his head and face but was able to fend off Pigeon until additional officers arrived to assist. The officer was treated for his wounds at a hospital in Park Rapids.

The investigation indicates Pigeon fashioned the shank from a bracket he removed from a table in the jail’s recreation room.

In a statement to investigators the Bayport man said he stalked the officer. He also said he would stab officers whenever he gets the chance, according to the news release.

Following the alleged attack Pigeon was charged with one count each of first, second, third and fourth-degree assault. His conditional bail was set at $900,000.

Court records indicate  Pigeon has been convicted of six prior felonies, including multiple convictions of assault of a law officer.
