in Gov. Mark Dayton's cabinet.

Management and Budget Commissioner Jim Schowalter will step down for a job in the private sector, the governor announced Wednesday.

The state's top tax official, Department of Revenue Commissioner Myron Frans, will take Schowalter's spot. His deputy commissioner will assume the top job at the Department of Revenue.

Schowalter has worked with the state's multi-billion-dollar budget in different roles for two decades, spanning four governors. He was appointed commissioner of the budgetary agency in 2011.

Schowalter is the fourth member of the governor's administration to announce plans to leave since Dayton's re-election in November. Dayton says no other cabinet members are expected to leave before his second term begins next year.
