The responding deputies arrived at the scene and determined that the collision involved a small jon boat and a cabin cruiser. The news release on the incident says a man and woman in the small boat sustained serious injuries and were ejected into the water.

The two men on the cabin cruiser were able to get them onto the larger vessel and rendered first-aid until deputies and other first responders arrived at the scene. Both were transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. The man, 59-year-old Dallas Larson of Hastings, later died from his injuries, while the woman is being treated for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Her name has not been released.

The Dakota County Sheriff's Office says the circumstances leading up to the deadly collision remain under investigation.
