Deadly Drag Race on Minnesota Road Leads to 15 Year Prison Term

Burnsville, MN (KROC-AM News) - A 21-year-old Burnsville woman has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for her role in the deaths of two people while she was drag racing her younger brother two years ago.

Camille Dennis-Bond was found guilty of two counts of third-degree murder at the end of a trial in Dakota County Court last December. The jury also convicted her on two counts of criminal vehicular homicide, criminal vehicular operation, and careless driving for the deaths of 22-year-old Tayler Garza of Woodbury and 22-year-old Dalton Ford of Burnsville. They were killed in a crash on Dakota County Road 42 in Burnsville on April 4, 2021.

According to the criminal complaint, Dennis-Bond was drag racing her teenage brother when his vehicle collided with the victim’s vehicle in a crash that was so violent it split their car in two. A passenger in Bond’s vehicle was critically injured in the crash. Her brother, Leon Bond, was 17 years old at the time.

Witnesses reported the vehicles driven by Dennis-Bond and her brother were going more than 100 mph in a 50-mile-per-hour zone. A technical reconstruction of the tragic incident put the speed of the brother's car at 114 miles per hour just five seconds before the impact.

Leon Bond, who is now 19 years old, entered guilty pleas in January to two counts of third-degree murder in juvenile court. Dakota County prosecutors had sought to have him prosecuted as an adult, but that request was denied by the judge assigned to the case, who placed Bond into the state's Extended Juvenile Jurisdiction system. That means that Bond, who was given an adult sentence of 25 years in prison, will be released from the state's Juvenile Correctional Facility in Red Wing on his 21st birthday.
