with a shooting outside a busy Maplewood strip mall that left one man dead and another injured.

Police say the shooting happened about 8:40 p.m. Saturday in front of Merwin Liquors on Rice Street.

Maplewood Police Chief Paul Schnell says the victims exchanged words with people in a car before they went into the store. When the men came out, shots were fired from the car.

The Star Tribune reports 25-year-old Terrence Woods of St. Paul died. Twenty-four-year-old Jamil Ellis of St. Paul was wounded.

Schnell told WCCO the initial investigation has led to the theory that the people in the car wanted the men to buy them alcohol.

Schnell says investigators are seeking more suspects in this "act of senseless violence."
