New Brighton Police Chief Bob Jacobson says the suspect, a 57-year-old man, had objected to his neighbors feeding deer.

Officers were called to a home in New Brighton about 8:30 p.m. Monday and found a man fatally shot and his girlfriend wounded. She was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center. Her condition is not known, but Jacobson says she is expected to survive.

The Star Tribune reports a neighbor who lives across the street called police shortly after the shootings to turn himself in.

Jacobson says police recovered a 12-gauge shotgun from the suspect's house.

The Ramsey County Attorney's office expects to file charges before noon Wednesday.
