Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Local Democrats have endorsed a former Mayo Clinic physician to challenge State Senator Carla Nelson in November.

A news release says the delegates to the DFL Party Senate District 26 endorsing conventions voted last night to throw the party's support behind Doctor Aleta Borrud's campaign to unseat Republican incumbent Carla Nelson in the fall election. Borup declared her candidacy for the Senate seat in December.

The news release announcing her endorsement says Borrud stepped away from an 18-year medical career focusing on older patients to be an advocate for the community.

Senate District 26 represents the south half of Rochester, along with areas of southern and eastern Olmsted County.
