Who to believe, and what to believe about the Ebola outbreak dominated Friday's discussion on the Rochester Today Show with Tom Ostrom and Andy Brownell on KROC-AM.

Ostrom, along with most of the callers to the program, were skeptical of government claims that the risk posed by the epidemic in Africa is very low in the United States. Tom cited erroneous statements by President Obama and the concerns expressed by some health experts about the potential for Ebola to become an airborne infection. He specifically pointed to the president's statement but it was highly unlikely Ebola would come to the U.S., and his more recent contention that you couldn't catch the deadly illness by sitting next to an infected person on a bus.

Brownell said he's concerned, but not alarmed by the recent developments. He cited experts, including Mayo Clinic staff, who contend our nation's robust medical systems and strong public health infrastructure would be capable of quickly halting the spread of Ebola and preventing the virus from causing a widespread outbreak in the U.S.
