Downtown Hit-and-Run Leads to Arrest for DWI in Rochester
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester police have reported the arrest of a man in connection with a property damage hit and run incident in downtown Rochester early today.
Police Department Communications Coordinator Amanda Grayson says officers responded to a report of a hit and run crash near the intersection of 4th Street and 5th Avenue Southwest around 12:40 AM. The first officer to arrive at the scene observed a parked vehicle partially on the curb with heavy damage and debris on the roadway with a trail of fluid leading away from the vehicle south on 5th Avenue.
According to Grayson, the officer followed the fluid trail to the nearby intersection and observed a downed street sign. Meanwhile, another officer spotted the suspect vehicle with heavy damage near the intersection of 11th Avenue and 2nd Street Southwest. The officer initiated a traffic stop and took 25-year-old Jordan Velez-Hammes into custody.
The news release indicates the Rochester man is being held on suspicion of DWI and leaving the scene of an accident.
