LeRoy, MN (KROC-AM News)- A two-vehicle crash near the Minnesota-Iowa state line severely injured an elderly Iowa man Monday afternoon.

The State Patrol responded to the collision at the intersection of Hwy. 63 and Hwy. 56 about 9 miles east of LeRoy shortly after 2:15 p.m. The state crash report indicates a semi-truck heading south on Hwy. 63 collided with a Chevy attempting to turn left onto northbound Hwy. 63 from eastbound Hwy. 56.

The state crash report identifies the Chevy driver as 81-year-old Josh Bartels of Cresco, IA. He was brought to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester with what are being described as life-threatening injuries. 

The truck driver, identified as 39-year-old Juan Rodriguez of Dallas, TX, was not hurt. The report says Bartels was not buckled up at the time of the crash. 

The Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office and LeRoy Fire Department also responded to the collision.
