Grand Marais, MN (KROC-AM News)- Authorities are investigating a deadly altercation that took place in northeast Minnesota

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were dispatched to the report of a possibly fatal altercation in Grand Marais shortly before 5 p.m. Responding deputies found an elderly man suffering from head trauma upon their arrival.

The man, described as a 78-year-old, died from his injuries. Authorities say the suspect in the case, described as a 28-year-old man, reported the altercation. 

He’s being held in the Cook County Jail. Investigators say the suspect and victim are known to each other. 

The Minnesota BCA is assisting the Cook County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation. Officials say they will release the victim’s identity once they have notified their next of kin.
