St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Primary elections are now needed to narrow the field of candidates for two more election races in Rochester.

The Minnesota Secretary of State's Office is reporting that Becca Dyer Tesch has filed for the 6th Ward seat on the Rochester City Council, joining Mark Schleusner and Dan Doering as candidates for the position currently held by Molly Dennis, who has yet to announce whether she plans to run for reelection in November. Current 4th Ward City Council member Kelly Rae Kirkpatrick, who has filed for reelection, is also facing two challengers.

The other primary election will be needed for a position on the Olmsted County Board of Commissioners. Karl Johnson has filed for the District 3 seat, where incumbent Gregg Wright has filed to run for another term in office, along with challenger April Sutor.

The candidate filing period for the 2024 general election opened on Tuesday and will continue through the afternoon of June 4.
