Another Goodbye Just Happened For a Familiar Face at Minnesota TV Station

After a handful of years of waking up early and sharing the latest weather information with fans in Southeast Minnesota, a familiar face has said goodbye.  Just a few days ago, Sean Macaday, a Meteorologist and Environmental Reporter for KIMT, let his fans on his Facebook page know that Wednesday, July 31st, was his last day on-air.

All good things must come to an end, but nobody ever said anything about the best things ! My last day at KIMT is this Wednesday.

Sean's note to fans included the initial feelings he had when he first took the job at KIMT, his stay in Minnesota was going to be short and sweet due to the cold.

Time for some honesty. I remember when I first took the job at KIMT right out of school as the weekend meteorologist. I wanted nothing more than to get out of Minnesota as fast as possible. Simply put, I hated the cold. I imagined 2-3 frigid years and then I’d be on my way out. I have never been happier to be so wrong. Isn’t it funny, then, that a part of me wishes I was staying?

Once you get out and explore, the Land of 10,000 Lakes has a way of winning you over, and Sean goes on in his post to explain what Minnesota means to him today.

Minnesota has taught me the astounding value of what is true and good through what can be uncomfortable. And trust me, this is the biggest compliment I can give. In the frigid cold winters I have learned not to shy away indoors, but to brave the blowing winds and frosted fingertips. This is the only way to witness untethered fields of snow, the rainbow of a January sunset, and the world slowed to a broken clock on a walk through the woods. I learned how to snowboard, to find the beauty in the cold stillness, and to enjoy the moments that winter brought us together. To embrace the cold! Albert Camus said it best - “In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer”.

And the summers here, well just, wow! I will certainly miss the summers the most. Whether on the water of these countless rivers, over the trails of the Driftless lost between each hillside, or meandering slowly as the wind through a blooming prairie. For those who seek the outdoors, this part of the world can and will show you its powers and secrets if you are willing to let it - to learn and explore.

What Is Sean Macaday From KIMT Planning To Do Next?

Sean shared that North Carolina is his next step, but not for TV.  He will be going back to school to get his Masters of Environmental Science & Policy from John Hopkins University.

I hope to attain the skills and experience to help protect the environment how I can. The weather will always have my heart - and I’m not writing it off completely - but I believe a challenge is also an opportunity, and I want to rise up to that.
