Store In Rochester, Minnesota, Is Closing Its Doors After 40 Years

Have you ever had a kid who needed shoes that were more than what you could buy off the shelves at Target or Walmart?  Overpronation was a term our family learned about and it was so bad for one of my kids that it was starting to cause ankle issues.  Like moms do, I researched and had to find a place that would help me figure out what shoes my kid needed.  That's when I found Schmitt's Stride Rite.  Quite a few families I've met throughout the years have similar stories and have found helpful, knowledgeable employees at this shoe store.

While it may seem trivial when you are young, wearing the wrong size of shoe has been proven to cause issues in the future, like bunions, plantar fasciitis, corns, and calluses.  (I've had all of those!).  According to the National Institutes of Health, the wrong shoes can cause nerve damage, joint pain, challenges with balance, or an increased risk of injury.

Sadly, it was just announced on their Facebook page that after 40 years of fitting shoes, Schmitt's Stride Rite is closing.

It's with a heavy heart we announce that Schmitt's Stride Rite will be closing this summer. This decision wasn’t made lightly, it was made with a lot of intention and appreciation for the decades of good memories and the relationships we formed. It’s the end of an era, but our family is so grateful for our customers both near and far who made Schmitt’s Stride Rite a success for over forty years. A closing date will be set in the coming weeks. Announcements will be made here on Facebook, so watch this space! Starting today the entire store will be on sale from 20-75% off. THANK YOU for over 40 amazing years! We hope to see you once more before we close the door one final time.
