Esteemed Rochester Nature Educator Has Died
Plainview, MN (KROC-AM News) - A well-known Rochester educator died this week.
Harry L. Buck was 92 years old when he passed away Thursday in Plainview. His obituary posted by the Schad and Zabel Funeral Home says a memorial service for Buck will take place on September 24 at Christ United Methodist Church.
Buck is well-remembered by generations of Rochester-raised children, who learned about the wonders of nature from him during his long career as the Director of the Quarry Hill Nature Center. His obituary says he was the first person to hold that position when he was hired in 1972 after teaching junior high school science and biology in Rochester. Buck served as the Quarry Hill Director until his retirement in 1986.
His obituary says Buck continued to serve as a volunteer at Quarry Hill after his retirement.
