The Charles E. Gagnon Museum and Sculpture Garden will feature the classical melodies of the flute at the latest in its series of concerts on Saturday, Sept. 24.
Luke Heewon Kim, a junior at Century High School, will perform works from historic master J.S. Bach as well as later composers including Claude Debussy and Joaquin Rodrigo. His recital also will include pieces written by Eldin Burton and Henri Busser for flute and piano.
The concert is scheduled at 4 p.m. at the outdoor patio on the grounds at the Rochester museum, where sculptor Charles E. Gagnon lived and worked. It will be held indoors if weather interferes.
Admission is $12 for adults and $7 for students. Tickets can be purchased online at https://www.gagnonmuseum.org/team-1 or at the door.
The non-profit Gagnon Museum is located at 2500 4th St. SW in Rochester. Street parking is available, and the museum has a driveway for dropping off guests.
Soloist Kim has received a number of musical honors. This year, he won first place in the Junior Division of the Laudie Porter Scholarship Competition from the Upper Minnesota Flute Association. He also placed second in the Senior Wind Division of the Rochester Music Guild ‘s Scholarship Competition.
Kim studied at the Interlochen Summer Flute Intensive Program this year and also participated in the Concert Band with the All-State Band program. Kim has been a member of the Southeastern Minnesota Youth Orchestras since 2018.
Now in its second year, the museum’s Concerts in the Garden series focuses on local and young musicians. The next event on Saturday, Oct. 15, will present violinist Evelyn Kim.
