Extra Innings Errors Lead to Twins Loss
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Kole Calhoun's liner eluded shortstop Eduardo Escobar's glove in the 12th inning, allowing Dan Robertson to score the go-ahead run from third, and the Los Angeles Angels held on to beat the Minnesota Twins 4-3 to gain ground in the AL wild-card race.
Escobar knocked the ball down and tried to throw home to get Robertson, but the throw was late as Los Angeles won the first game of the split doubleheader and pulled even with Minnesota in the race for the second wild-card spot. The two teams trail Houston by 1 1-2 games.
The early game was part of a doubleheader as a makeup to Friday's postponement.
Mike Morin (3-1) struck out the only two batters he faced in the 11th. Huston Street earned his 37th save.
Blaine Boyer (3-5) allowed an unearned run in 1 1-3 innings in the loss.
