Growing up in Iowa is similar to small-town Minnesota.  We've got grain bins, silos, and water towers in both states and in some towns, those silos seem to dominate the skyline.  Throughout the years though, some of those silos have remained empty and one town in Iowa, Fort Dodge, decided to turn one of its older, well-known items into art.  Sound familiar, Rochester, Minnesota?

The corn cob tower in Rochester, Minnesota is looking gorgeous thanks to a makeover it had recently.  You may not know this but before that happened, there was a lot of chatter and groups wanting this to be saved and for everyone to share their thoughts with the city council.  We talked a little bit about this in a story that you can read here.

Our landscape in the Midwest is full of so much history; silos, grain bins, beautiful old barns, and so much that will soon be gone if not preserved.

In my hometown, Fort Dodge, Iowa, some massive silos had a unique renovation and instead of being an eye soar, they are now magnificent pieces of art.  Seeing these silos in person should be on your bucket list.  If you can't get there though, check out the video of these now amazing works of art that the Des Moines Register put together (click here if you can't see it below).

Most of my family still lives in the Fort Dodge area so I am back quite a bit.  On one of my trips, I was on a mission to grab a selfie.  If you follow me on Facebook and Instagram, you probably already saw it.  If not, enjoy the massive piece of art below!

I'm hearing that Mankato also had the same artist do a magnificent piece on some silos as well!  If you've taken any photos of those, I'd love to see them.  You can send those my way to my Facebook page at Jessica On The Radio or to my e-mail at jessica.wiliams@townsquaremedia.com.
