Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - An Eyota teenager has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for killing his younger brother.

18-year-old Kaleb Smith today entered a guilty plea to a first-degree manslaughter charge through a plea agreement that resulted in the dismissal of a second-degree murder charge and a felony domestic assault charge.

He was previously charged in juvenile court and the case was only recently transferred to adult court.

Smith was 17-years-old when he caused the death of his 5-year-old brother at the family's home on June 1st last year.

The criminal complaint indicates Smith told investigators the younger boy had been sent to his room and was “kicking and hitting the bed and flopping like a fish.”

After their mother left the home for a short period of time, Smith said he went into his brother's room and put his hand over his mouth and pinched his nose until he became unresponsive.

Their mother returned home soon after and called 911 after discovering her son. The 5-year-old was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
