Falling Tree Kills 63-Year-Old Bicyclist Near Preston

Preston, MN (KROC-AM News) - A death in Fillmore County might have been related to the severe storms that swept through southeastern Minnesota and early Wednesday.

Iowa Man Dies on Root River Trail Near Preston

A statement issued by the Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to a report of a deceased man on the Root River Trail early Wednesday evening. The 911 call came in around 6:45 p.m. and indicated that the incident occurred approximately two miles east of Preston.

Storms Swept Through Southeastern Minnesota Wednesday

The Sheriff's Office says an investigation determined that a 63-year-old man from Iowa was riding a bike east on the trail ahead of a group of other riders when a tree fell from the side of the trail and struck him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man's name and hometown have not been released.

The Preston Police Department and Preston Fire and Ambulance also responded to the fatal incident.
