A fast-moving clipper storm system created near whiteout conditions and slippery road surfaces in the Rochester area Tuesday afternoon.

Preliminary reports indicate the storm dropped 1 to 3 inches of snow in and near Rochester, while higher amounts have been reported to the west. The National Weather Service says there was a report of 4.7 inches of accumulation near Mantorville, and  5.5 inches in Owatonna. In some areas, the snow was reported to be coming down at a rate of an inch to an inch and a half an hour before it moved off to the east.

The Minnesota State Patrol says troopers responded to over a dozen crashes involving property damage, and another five involving injuries in the Rochester District while the storm system cruised through the region.
