Chatfield, MN (KROC-AM News)The State Patrol says both drivers involved in a crash on Hwy. 52 in southeast Minnesota earlier this week lost their lives.

A preliminary crash report released by the State Patrol on Thursday morning indicated two vehicles were involved in the fatal crash. 

The drivers were the only occupants. The crash occurred around 11:45 Wednesday night between Rochester and Chatfield.

A southbound Jeep and northbound SUV collided at the highway’s intersection with Olmsted County Rd. 7, the state crash report says. 

State Patrol ID's Preston Man & Chicago Man Who Were Killed in Hwy. 52 Crash

On Friday morning, the State Patrol released the names of the fatal crash victims.

40-year-old Devon Peri Williams of Preston was identified as the SUV driver. The Jeep driver was identified as 62-year-old Samuel A Hernandez of Chicago.

The updated state crash report says Williams died from his injuries at St. Mary’s Hospital. Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both drivers were buckled up. Williams was not under the influence of alcohol and a test to determine if alcohol was in Hernandez’s system is pending, according to the state crash report. 

The State Patrol has not said which vehicle entered the oncoming lane. Hwy. 52 was wet at the time of the fatality.

Mayo Clinic Ambulance, Chatfield Ambulance, the Chatfield Fire Department, the Rochester Fire Department, the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office and Rochester towing also responded to the deadly collision.
