Rochester, MN Police Investigating Injury Crash Near Apache Mall (Update)
Update 7-20 9:10 a.m.: Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The Rochester Police Department is investigating a two-vehicle injury crash at one of the entrances to the Apache Mall in Rochester Wednesday night.
Police Captain Casey Moilanen says the crash was reported shortly after 8:50 p.m. It happened at the intersection of Hwy. 14 and Memorial Parkway Southwest.
Moilanen said the initial crash investigation indicates an eastbound van was turning right into the shopping center and westbound Mustang that was making a left turn into the mall parking lot collided.
A 43-year-old woman and 34-year-old man, whose hometowns were not available as of Wednesday morning were in the van. An 18-year-old Rochester man was driving the Mustang with 18-year-old and 19-year-old male passengers from Rochester. The man and woman in the van were taken to St. Mary’s Hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
The occupants of the Mustang were not transported from the scene for further care. Moilanen said the collision caused the van to spin into a nearby ditch and that the Mustang suffered heavy front-end damage.
Scanner traffic indicates the Rochester Fire Department had to extricate two people from one of the vehicles involved in the crash. Moilanen said the investigation is focused on whether or not the speed of the Mustang was a factor in causing the crash.
No names have been released.
