This will be one of several downtown construction projects planned for this summer.

Mayo Clinic in November announced the planned construction of a new loading dock on the site of the former Days Inn.

Mayo’s plans call for a 28,000 square foot facility that will replace an existing loading dock on the north side of the Methodist Hospital that was demolished to make room for the planned expansion of its proton beam therapy center.

The plan shows a pedestrian and utility tunnel under First Avenue Northwest that would connect the new loading dock to Methodist Hospital.

Construction will start Monday and require the closure of 1st Avenue between Center Street and 1st Street Northwest.

Also, the stretch of 1st Avenue between 1st and 2nd Streets will have single-lane traffic open in each direction.
