Over the weekend a Minnesota winter attraction officially secured a Guinness World Record. The attraction opened up over the weekend in Eagan, Minnesota just in time for the cold temperatures to come in.

For the past few years, there has been called the Minnesota Ice Festival set up at TCO Performance Center in Eagan. That's where the Minnesota Vikings do their training camp but there are also other events hosted there over the year.
The Minnesota Ice Festival is a part of the Winter SKOLstice, a winter festival that is hosted at TCO Performance Center.

The Winter SKOLstice opened at the end of November for this winter but the biggest attraction didn't open until this weekend: the ice maze.

The maze looks super cool with tons of sculptures and lights. Plus, there's an ice slide, ice bars, skating rink, and igloos to warm up in and play games!
In order to make this attraction, they used 2 million pounds of ice. That's crazy! That's heavier than the biggest passenger airplanes! (For the record, a passenger plane can weigh "100,000 pounds to over 1 million pounds" according to EntireFlight.)
The thing is huge. So big, in fact, that they were officially reviewed by Guinness World Records.
Minnesota Home to the World's Largest Ice Maze
A representative from Guinness World Records was at the Minnesota Ice Maze over the weekend. They had to measure the size of the maze in order to confirm if they truly did break a record.
Friday, January 10th was when the official announcement was made. Fittingly, it was snowing when the Guinness World Record representative and Robbie, who appears to be the lead of the Minnesota Ice Festival, took the stage.
It was made official that with 18,148.89 square feet, the ice maze at the Minnesota Ice Festival is the largest in the world!
The last record holder was a maze in Buffalo, NY. It was set in 2010 at 12,855.68 square feet.
The ice maze is open and the rest of the Minnesota Ice Festival festivities are open now through February 16th. Tickets are $24.99 for adults (before taxes and fees) and $12.99 for kids (also before taxes and fees) and they're going fast.
The Minnesota Ice Festival isn't the only place embracing our Minnesota winter. We also have the incredible Minnesota Ice Castles that you can visit!
