Lincoln, NE (Gophersports.com) - Ben Meyer and Jordan Jess combined for a five-hit shutout and the Golden Gophers scored on half of their six hits, to win 3-0 at No. 23 Nebraska. It was Minnesota's (12-17, 3-7 Big Ten) first win against a ranked team this season.

Meyer pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and four walks and striking out two. Jess allowed one hit and struck out two in the final 2 1/3 innings to earn the save. He entered the game with outs and two runners on base in the seventh and struck out Nebraska (24-11, 3-4 Big Ten) leadoff hitter Ryan Boldt of Red Wing.

Center fielder Dan Motl hit two doubles, and first baseman Toby Hanson hit a double and a home run. Each batted 2-for-4 on the game.

MINNEAPOLIS (Gophersports.com) - The No. 15/11 Minnesota softball team handed Northwestern its first Big Ten loss of the season Friday night, defeating the Wildcats, 10-5, at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium. The Gophers improved to 31-7 and 7-3 in the conference with the victory. It was the Maroon and Gold's 99th win at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium and at two hours, 46 minutes, was the team's second-longest game of the season.

Gopher sophomore Sara Groenewegen notched a career-high 15 strikeouts en route to her 20th win of the season in the pitching circle.
