Gov. Dayton Schedules Surgery at Mayo Next Week

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Gov. Mark Dayton will have hip surgery next week at Mayo Clinic and may be limited in his travel for up to three months.

Dayton's office announced the procedure Tuesday. It will be the 67-year-old governor's third procedure at Mayo since taking office, following back surgery in December 2012 and a platelet injection last October to help heal a torn hip muscle.

Next week's procedure will have him under general anesthesia for an hour while the surgical team reattaches the major hip tendon to the bone around the hip joint.

Dayton will have to wear a brace for up to three months which his office says could restrict some travel. Dayton says it will not affect his job or his plan to run for re-election this fall.
