Guilty Plea For Violent Incident in Small SE Minnesota Town
LeRoy, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Mower County man has admitted to felony charges involving a violent incident at a gas station in late August.
A statement issued by the Mower County Sheriff's Office indicated that deputies responded to the business on Main Street in LeRoy around 5:30 p.m. on August 30. Court documents say the deputies encountered 51-year-old Nelson Kip Scrivner of LeRoy.
Suspect Spat Blood at Deputy, First Responders
The criminal complaint says he had blood on his clothing, and deputies described him as intoxicated and combative. After refusing to comply with repeated commands from the officers, he was subdued using a Taser.
The court document says that while he was being medically cleared at the scene, Scrivner allegedly spat blood at a deputy and first responders inside an ambulance. He was then taken to a hospital to be checked out before being transported to the Mower County Jail.
Victim Says Attacker Tried to Steal His Pickup
According to the charges, Scrivner had entered a pickup truck at the gas station and assaulted the 72-year-old driver, who stated that he believed his attacker was trying to steal his vehicle. The victim told deputies he was able to get the keys out of the ignition while fighting against Scrivner, then exited the pickup and ran to the convenience store to seek help.

The charges say the disturbance then shifted inside the business, where Scrivner allegedly put his hands around the neck of one of the employees. The first victim and two workers in the store fought against him before law enforcement arrived at the scene.
Charges Include Attempted Carjacking, Assault
Scrivner was charged with felony counts of attempted carjacking and fourth-degree assault on a police officer. He was also charged with gross misdemeanor interference with an emergency call and three counts of fifth-degree misdemeanor assault.
During an appearance in Mower County Court today, Scrivner entered guilty pleas to both felony charges and one of the misdemeanor assault counts.
His bail remains set at $100,000, and he is scheduled to be sentenced in December.
