I work in downtown Rochester, which is undergoing a major transformation with Mayo Clinic’s $5 billion construction plan over the next few years. Right now, a lot of demolition is happening, and Mayo officials say the real construction will kick off early next year. The goal is to open new facilities by 2028 and finish the whole project by 2030.

When it’s all done, downtown is definitely going to look a lot different. But it’s not just downtown that’s changing—there are construction projects all over the city, with new housing developments and buildings going up constantly.

Like most parents, I treat my kids when they are recognized for going above and beyond at school. Most of the time, my kids pick Flapdoodles ice cream for their treat and last night was treat night.

On our way to pick up the ice cream, I noticed the construction on the corner of 37th and Highway 52 had really picked up with an entire wall of the building already constructed, but I wasn’t sure what was being built there.

As we got a little closer, I spotted a sign that told me what was going in.

Here’s What’s Going Up at the Corner of 37th and Hwy 52 in Rochester

A new Premier Bank is being built at this location. According to Jeff Kiger from the Post Bulletin, it will be a 14,400-square-foot complex with two drive-thru lanes.

Premier already has a location in the area. That location is expected to close and move its operations into the new facility when it opens.

Premier Banks was founded in 1974 under the name Maplewood State Bank and operated out of a double-wide trailer. In 1988, the bank changed its name to Premier, and today it has 20 locations across the state.
