Mississippi River Crossing in Wabasha Closed Due to Semi-Train Collision at Western Wisconsin Railroad Crossing
The bridge connecting Minnesota and Wisconsin in Wabasha is closed to all non-emergency vehicles.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation says Hwy. 60 in Wabasha is closed at the bridge and advises motorists looking to cross the river to use the Winona or Red Wing river crossings.
Photos of the collision posted to Facebook by the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office shows a stalled locomotive at a railroad crossing about two miles from the interstate bridge in Nelson.
The semi appeared to have been traveling in the northbound lane of Wisconsin Hwy. 25 when the northbound train struck its trailer, causing the semi’s contents to spill on the road, tracks and area surrounding the crossing.
No derailed train cars are shown in the photos. So far no injuries have been reported. The photos indicate the cab of the semi truck made it across the tracks before the train smashed into the trailer.
A time table for the road reopening is not available.
