I just learned about that big, new solar field currently under construction in northwest Rochester a few weeks ago, and now RPU has released a video about how it's being installed.

Rochester Public Utilities (RPU) has been busy building a huge, new solar array called the Westside Solar Project (WSP) in rural northwest Rochester. I first noticed all those solar panels on the hills along the southside of Valleyhigh Drive (as you head west of 50th Street) while I was out with our dogs a few weeks ago.

According to RPU's Plugged In, the new Westside Solar Project is all part of RPU's pledge to become 100 percent renewable by 2030. When it's finally done later this spring, those 32,000 solar panels will produce 10 megawatts (MW) of solar energy generation.

RPU first bought the property where WSP is located back in 2019. Construction on installing those panels started last year and is expected to be completed later this spring with WSP being connected to the grid and producing power later this summer.

Keep scrolling to check out a cool time-lapse video RPU just released of how WSP is being constructed, and then see how many OTHER Rochester landmarks you can identify... from above.
