The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) says the closure is related to a multi-year, $50 million project to replace six bridges in Austin.

2025 is the second year of the three-year project.

30 Hour Closure of I-90 in Austin Begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, October 24, Another Closure Planned Monday Night

Starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, October 24, I-90 will be closed in both directions in Austin to allow crews to construct a pair of median crossovers and complete work on the 4th St. NW overpass.

A news release issued by MnDOT says the closure is expected to last until late Saturday night.

The official detour route of eastbound I-90 traffic is Hwy. 105 south and east to Mower County Rd. 28 east to Highway 218 north. Westbound I-90 traffic will be detoured on the same route in the opposite order.

Along with the weekend closure, crews will also close the interstate on Monday night to continue the work. Monday’s closure begins at 8 p.m. and is scheduled to wrap up by 6 a.m. Tuesday.

One of the crossovers will be built between the Cedar River and 4th St. NW and the other will be constructed between the Cedar River and 6th St. NE.

I-90 traffic will be one lane in each direction once the crossovers are completed. Both directions will use the eastbound side of the interstate until mid to late November, when another closure is scheduled to occur, MnDOT says.
