The late fall storm system that impacted southern Minnesota Thursday through Saturday, left some impressive rainfall totals that will likely help to alleviate the state's drought conditions.

The latest U.S. Drought Monitor report released last Thursday showed that 72% of Minnesota is still experiencing some kind of drought, down from 83% the week before. The next update will be released this Thursday, with continued improvement expected.

48 hour rainfall totals through 1 pm Saturday across the state show that most of the southern half of Minnesota picked up one to three inches of rain.

Weather experts say that had this been a later season storm with colder temperatures, we might have seen one to two feet of snow accumulation.

Expect sunny skies the next couple of days. Clouds and rain chances return toward the second half of the week, but it certainly won't be a washout.
