Influenza Blamed for Death of Minnesota Child
It appears Minnesota might be experiencing the peak of the flu season.
The state Department of Health today reported the flu-related death of a child. It was the first pediatric death to be blamed on influenza during the current flu season. There were three pediatric flu-related deaths statewide during the previous flu season, which also resulted in about 1500 hospitalizations. So far this season, there have been 715 flu-related hospitalizations, including 156 reported last week.
The Department of Health also received 19 reports of probable flu outbreaks in schools and 11 confirmed outbreaks among residents of nursing homes and other long-term care facilities. Those numbers were fairly steady when compared to the previous week, and overall influenza activity continues to be rated as “widespread.’
