Is Minnesota Considered a ‘Green’ State? Here’s What We Know
Earth Day was just yesterday, and our team celebrated by going out and helping pick up trash in the area! Sadly, there was quite a bit of litter to pick up, but thankfully, there are lots of people out there who will take the time to help clean up our planet.
Obviously, taking care of our planet is a year-round thing, but Earth Day is always a good reminder.
Typically, if someone is good at things like recycling, picking up trash in their area, composting, etc. they may be considered environmentally-friendly or 'green'.

How Environmentally Friendly is Minnesota?
There was a recent study that ranked all of the states based on how 'green' they are for 2025. It was done by WalletHub and looked at many factors, such as climate change contributions that the state has made, eco-friendly things that the state does, and what they called the 'environmental quality rank'.
I would say, in my opinion, that Minnesota is really good about being environmentally friendly and 'green'. But what does the data show?

The Most Environmentally-Friendly States in the US
Let's take a peek at the 10 'greenest' states in the country based on this 2025 study.
10. Connecticut
9. Washington

It appears the data agrees that Minnesota is one of the most environmentally friendly states in the US, coming in at number 6!
We ranked number 4 for Environmental Quality Rank, number 7 for Eco-Friendly Behaviors Rank, and number 22 for Climate-Change Contributions Rank.
