Gun Incident Leads to Online Learning For Students in Edina
Edina, MN (KROC-AM News) - Students attending a pair of schools in the Twin Cities are shifted to online learning today following an incident involving a gun on Thursday.
The Edina Police Department today reported the arrest of a 17-year-old boy in connection to a threat made at Edina High School the previous morning. A news release says Edina Police were informed on Thursday that the teenage boy took a Snapchat video of himself in the parking lot of the high school with a semi-automatic handgun equipped with an extended magazine on his lap. The caption to the video read, "Come outside, (expletive)." The video then shifted to the doors to the school.
The news release says Edina police investigators with worked with the FBI and the Minneapolis Police Department to identify the youth, who was eventually located and taken into custody in Minneapolis. Officials say he is not a former or current student at Edina High School.
The statement goes on to say that the decision to shift to "virtual learning" for students attending Edina High School and the adjoining Valley View Middle School was made out of an abundance of caution.
