It’s Your Chance Complain About Rochester’s Property Tax
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester City Council will hold its annual “Truth in Taxation” hearing on the city’s proposed 2019 budget and property tax levy this evening. The council is being asked to approve a $284 million spending plan supported by a $74.7 million property tax levy. If approved at that level, the city’s property tax levy would be up 9-percent from the current levy.
On the spending side, $186.5 million would cover the city’s operating expenses. $87.5 million would be earmarked for capital projects and almost $10 million would be spent on the city’s debt service.
The City Council agenda also includes a vote on the 2019 budget and rate schedules for Rochester Public Utilities. The governing board for the municipal utility recently approved a 1.9-percent electric rate increase and another 6-percent hike in water rates that are scheduled to take effect January 1st, pending the City Council’s approval.
