Man Fatally Shot at Close Range in South Minneapolis

According to a Minneapolis Police Department media release, the first incident took place late Thursday night. At approximately 8:50 p.m. on February 6, officers from the 3rd Precinct responded to reports of a shooting on the 2400 block of 18th Ave S.

Upon arrival, they found a 31-year-old man suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. Officers rendered medical aid before the victim was transported to Hennepin Healthcare Hospital, where he later died.

Police say preliminary information suggests the shooting occurred at close range, and a group of three to four people was seen fleeing the scene on foot.

No arrests have been made. Investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

“This shooting, which occurred at close range, is especially troubling,” said Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara. “Our investigators are working to identify those responsible. I urge anyone with information about this incident to come forward and assist our efforts in seeking justice for the victim.”

Double Shooting Kills One, Injures Another in North Minneapolis

The second incident occurred just before 2 a.m. on February 7. Officers from the 4th Precinct responded to reports of a shooting on the 2500 block of 26th Ave N. Inside a residence, officers found a man in his 20s with life-threatening gunshot wounds and a woman in her 20s with non-life-threatening injuries.

The MPD media release says, "Despite immediate lifesaving efforts by officers, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was transported to Hennepin Healthcare Hospital for treatment."

Investigators believe the shots were fired from outside the residence, striking both victims inside. No suspects have been arrested yet.

Chief O’Hara stated there is currently no indication that the two homicides are connected.

“This is the second homicide in less than four hours, and it also appears to be targeted,” O’Hara said. “We cannot stand by and let this continue. Anyone with information should come forward and assist our investigators. We need the community's support to solve this horrific shooting.”
