As soon as I heard that Minnesota was going to get pounded with snow and temps so cold that my nose hairs were going to freeze, I started making my shopping list. I was making a mental list of the things I needed to grab real quick on my way home today.

For some reason, we hear the word "storm" and we have this instant response to get food. I think it might be PTSD from that Polar Vortex in 2020 when tanks had to rescue stranded motorists. Not really sure though. I do know that a few items at the store were pretty much wiped clean off the shelves today...because we all bought them.

I am pretty sure that as soon as the word "storm" shows up in the forecast, people in Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin are just trained to hop in their cars and go to the store. Stocking up on supplies becomes our #1 priority and we shop like we have absolutely nothing in our house to eat. So, we will up our carts with all "the things" and hope we grabbed enough to make it through the storm.

FYI - we will make it through the storm, and some of us will do that with Double Stuffed Oreos. Some of us will not...because the store shelf was empty by the time we got there.

What items do you buy at the store before storms hit Minnesota?

One mistake that I have made during a last-minute storm shopping trip is NOT going early enough. The bread aisle at the grocery store only had bread that tasted like cardboard. #NotJoking I had to rethink the grilled cheese idea and go even simpler - soup and crackers!

The rest of the essentials for me are yogurt, half & half (I'm a coffee snob), cereal, and ingredients for Puppy Chow. You've got to have something with chocolate when it snows!
