
Update: 84-Year-Old Woman With Dementia Reported Missing in Rochester Found Safe
UPDATE 8/19/2025 8:30 a.m.: Costa was safely located in the area of Fox Valley Dr. SW and West Circle Dr., according to the Rochester Police Department.

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) has issued a statewide missing person alert for a woman who vanished from a Rochester hotel.

The alert, issued on behalf of the Rochester Police Department early Tuesday morning, says the missing woman has dementia.
She is staying in Rochester with her husband and daughter and arrived on Monday from California.

84-Year-Old California Woman With Dementia Reported Missing After Leaving Kahler Hotel in Downtown Rochester
Authorities have identified the missing woman as 84-year-old Evelyn Costa.
Her husband and daughter last saw her around 5 p.m. Monday at the Kahler Grand Hotel, located at 20 2nd Ave. Southwest in downtown Rochester.
Costa’s daughter reported her mother missing to hotel staff Monday night. Staff then contacted Rochester police. Her family says Costa was asleep in their room when they last saw her, according to the alert.
Costa is described in the alert as “very petite,” 5’2”, 100 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. She was last seen wearing a gray colored sweatsuit.
The BCA says Costa had her appendix removed last month and has a surgical scar.
While canvassing for Costa, law enforcement learned a person matching her description was seen in Central park, located at 225 1st. Ave. North around 7:30 Monday evening.
Costa does not have access to a vehicle and the family says she does not have her phone or any electronic devices on her that would allow law enforcement to track her.
She has no associates or family members in the Rochester area or in Minnesota. Her location was unknown at the time of the alert being issued.
Costa has an appointment at Mayo Clinic scheduled for Tuesday, the alert says. Anyone who may have seen Costa is asked to call Rochester police dispatch at 507-328-6800.
