Another Rochester Business Closing: Local Jewelry Store to Shut Down

Just a few hours after we heard that Taco JED was closing in Rochester, Minnesota, news broke that another business is shuttering for good.

NOW CLOSING: Well-Known Jewelry Store in Rochester, MN

The moment of extreme frustration this summer for Rochester residents was when Broadway was impacted by orange cones, Civic Center Drive, 37th Street, 75th Street NE, 2nd Street SW, 6th Street SW, 4th Street, and a really long section by the Apache Mall also had areas under construction...just to name a few.

Every single road that I could take to get to downtown Rochester from my house was under construction or had a detour.  Getting to businesses like Hunt Drug to pick up my husband's medicine after his surgery was like an obstacle course.  When I finally found the road that would let me into their parking lot, it was a ghost town.  What used to be a packed lot for all of the restaurants and businesses in that strip mall now held three cars.

While construction is necessary, it has taken a toll on our local businesses.  Sadly, it was just announced that a well-known jewelry store on North Broadway will be closing its doors.  It was stated that the pandemic and construction in front of its building were reasons behind the closing decision.

KD Fine Jewelers Just Announced It Is Closing In Rochester, MN

According to KTTC, KD Fine Jewelers, which has been around for about 7 years, has made the decision to close its store.

The name on the sign might say KD Fine Jewelers, but many of us remember the name that was previously displayed - Bernie's.  Back in 1987, the building at 1800 N Broadway in Rochester became the home for this well-known jeweler.  After Bernie's wife retired in 2019, Karla Dison bought the company and reopened the building with its new name, KD Fine Jewelers.

Unfortunately, construction on Broadway has made it extra difficult for customers to visit the store.  Dison told KTTC, "We have not had the customers that we normally have because they can't get here."

When Is KD Fine Jewelers Closing in Rochester, MN?

A going-out-of-business sale will start at KD Fine Jewelers on October 1st.  Fixtures, furniture, jewelry and fine gems will all be available to purchase.

KD Fine Jewelers will officially close its doors on January 1st, 2026.
