Minnesota’s Famous “Mushroom House” Would Make The Coolest Airbnb Ever!!

It looks like something straight out of a sci-fi movie, a Flintstones episode, or the kind of Airbnb you accidentally spend hours obsessing over online instead of going to bed at a reasonable time.

Apparently, it's been known around Duluth for decades as the “Mushroom House.” The iconic dome home just hit the market, and I cannot stop thinking about how incredible it would be as an Airbnb.

Maybe this is my new thing now? Going on the hunt for the coolest, weirdest, most unforgettable homes in Minnesota that would make insane Airbnbs.

Because this place absolutely qualifies.

According to the listing, it was built in 1970 by Duluth developer George Hovland and designed by architect Stan Nord Connolly. The home uses an innovative foam-shell dome construction that still looks wildly futuristic more than 50 years later.

The curved walls, the dome ceilings, and the sunken living room is really where it leans into it - with a built-in sofa and even a built-in bar. It’s those little details you don’t really expect… but once you see it, it kind of makes perfect sense for this house.

And it just keeps going. Purple carpet. A blue kitchen. Little details like that make it a hard-to-forget home.

The arched kitchen keeps that same organic shape flowing through the main level, while downstairs opens into a massive cozy great room with wood beams and a fireplace that feels perfect for snowy Duluth weekends.

Honestly, if this became an Airbnb tomorrow, people would book it immediately. I know I would! It has 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and 2,800 square feet of curved, creative, totally unforgettable space.
