Jere Lantz Takes Reins of Rochester Symphony
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The longtime music director of the Rochester Symphony Orchestra and Chorale has been named the organization’s new president and CEO.
The organization says Jere Lantz will officially begin his new duties September 1st. He has been the RSOC music director for 35 years.
The RSOC says Lentz will also serve as its artistic director, which will give him more oversight of the vision of the organization. Lantz has also served as Music Director of the Minneapolis Pops Orchestra, Minneapolis Chamber Symphony, and others. He has been interim conductor of the Winona and Mankato Symphonies, Asst. Music Director of the MN Opera, Founding Music Director of the MN Opera Touring Company and Guest Conductor for both the MN Orchestra and The SPCO.
RSOC Board Chair Jay Beck said of the Lantz appointment, "This is a watershed moment for the RSOC. It's truly exciting to have Jere Lantz back living among us, helping us to build the organization while continuing to bring quality music performance and educational opportunities to our community. He's the perfect person to lead this organization at this time in its history."
The RSOC begins its 96th season this year.
The previous president of the group resigned in April, a few months after he was charged with stealing money from a vulnerable adult who had been living in a local group home. An investigation found 45 year old Jeffrey Amundson had taken more than $18,000 of the man’s money for his personal use. His case is pending.
