Jordan Murphy Earns 3rd Straight Big Ten Honor
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota junior forward Jordan Murphy is Big Ten Player of the Week for the third consecutive week.
Murphy is only the second Gopher to win the award three times in a single season, joining Quincy Lewis from the 1998-99 season. He is the first player to win the award in three consecutive weeks in the same season since Evan Turner of Ohio State in 2009.
Murphy continued his streak of double-doubles in wins last week, extending it to seven. The San Antonio, Texas, native scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds Tuesday against Alabama A&M. He scored a team-high 16 points and added 11 rebounds in Minnesota's 69-51 win over Massachusetts in Friday's opening game of the Barclays Center Classic. The next day, he followed it up with a first-half double-double on the way to 19 points and 14 rebounds in an 89-84 win over Alabama.
Minnesota is off to a 7-0 start and will take on Miami Wednesday night.
