LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) — A 19-year-old La Crosse man who pleaded guilty to fatally shooting a teen last summer has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of release after 25 years.

Deshawn Randall was sentenced Friday in the August death of 17-year-old George Miller. Randall pleaded guilty in February to first-degree intentional homicide.

Randall said in court Friday that "I wish I could take back what I did."

Randall's attorney, Michael Covey, said Randall "got swallowed up by the streets, by the gangs" and didn't learn how to properly resolve conflicts.

With credit for time served in jail, Randall can petition for parole in 2040.
