Elko New Market, MN (KROC-AM News) - Charges are pending against a 72-year-old Lakeville man who was arrested Friday night after the vehicle he was driving struck and killed a child at a rural intersection southwest of the Twin Cities suburb.

The Scott County Sheriff's Office says the juvenile victim was riding a bike when the deadly crash occurred shortly after 7 o'clock Friday evening. A news release states that shortly after officers and other first responders arrived at the scene, deputies were approached by Joseph Friedges who indicated he had hit the child with his pickup when drove off the roadway.

The news release also says the deputies detected the odor of alcohol coming from Friedges. He was arrested after the deputies conducted field sobriety tests. He is expected to be charged with criminal vehicular homicide.

The name of the victim has not been released.
