Lane Closures on Busy Rochester Street End Early (Update)
Update: 8-8-23: Crews have finished the road maintenance work earlier than expected. 2nd St. Southwest between 11th and 16th Avenues was restored to two lanes as of Tuesday morning.
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Lane closures on a busy Rochester street are set to begin Monday morning.
A news release from the City of Rochester says the lane closures could cause significant delays and advises motorists to consider alternative routes in and out of downtown Rochester. The work is also expected to impact traffic bound for St. Mary’s Hospital.
Starting at 5 a.m. Monday both directions of 2nd St. Southwest will be reduced to one lane. The lane closures will span from 11th Ave. to 16th Ave. Southwest.
Access to the St. Mary’s Emergency Room via 14th Ave. Southwest will remain open to both directions of traffic during the work. City officials also plan to monitor and adjust the stoplights through the work area if necessary.
The Rochester Police Department will also have officers stationed in the area to assist with traffic flow. City officials are asking motorists seeking the downtown and St. Mary’s Hospital to consider using Civic Center Dr. Northwest or 6th St. Southwest.
The work is expected to wrap up by Wednesday. The lane closures are to allow crews to conduct what the city is describing as necessary road maintenance. Crews will shift the lane closures as the work progresses.
