Leinenkugel’s Brewery in Chippewa Falls to Be Shut Down
Since 1867 Leinenkugel's Beer has been brewed in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. In 2025, that comes to an end.
The Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company was co-founded by Jacob Mathias Leinenkugel and John Miller 156 years ago, making it the seventh oldest brewery in the U.S.
Miller Brewing Company (now Molson Coors) acquired the Leinenkugel's brand in 1988, and the lineup of Leinie's beers have been brewed in both Chippewa Falls and Milwaukee. The end of the brewing in Chippewa Falls is set to hit on January 17, 2025.
Molson Coors Chief Supply Chain Officer Brian Erhardt says,
This move follows the gradual shift of production of Leinie’s brands from Chippewa Falls to Milwaukee as the portfolio has grown over the years; Milwaukee already produces more than 75% of total Leinenkugel volume.
Originally only available in the Midwest, Leinenkugel's lineup of brews are now available in all fifty states.

Erhardt adds,
Since Miller Brewing Company acquired Leinenkugel’s in 1988, the brand and Chippewa Falls have been a cherished part of our company and culture. That’s not changing. Leinie’s Summer Shandy and the rest of the portfolio will continue to play a critical role in our premiumization strategy.
Will there be changes to the popular Leinie's Lodge free stage at the Minnesota State Fair? No word, and only time will tell.
Let's raise a glass to the workers at the brewery in Chippewa Falls for bringing us their tasty brew for all these years.
