Cannon Falls, MN (KROC-AM News)- Officials say a lightning strike is to blame for a fire that torched a home in southeast Minnesota.

The bolt of lightning and subsequent fire occurred while a line of thunderstorms swept across Minnesota on Wednesday evening. 

The storm system produced hail as large as two inches in areas of Dakota and Goodhue Counties and triggered a Flash Flood Warning in part of Wabasha County

Fire Caused by Lightning Strike Destroys Home Near Cannon Falls

Cannon Falls Fire Chief Brice Miller says crews were paged to the report of a home fully engulfed in flames after being struck by lightning about five miles south of Cannon Falls around 9:15 Wednesday night. 

He says the rural Cannon Falls area home appears to be a total loss. Cannon Falls Ambulance responded to the scene, however no injuries were reported. 

Wanamingo Fire and Rescue, Randolph-Hampton Fire District and Miesville Fire Department assisted in the fire fight.
