Roseville, MN (KROC AM News) - The Minnesota State Lottery is reporting history was made last week.

The lottery says a father and son from Halstad were separate winners of the same drawing.

Pedro Ruiz Jr. received a call from his father last Friday, asking that he buy him a ticket for the All or Nothing lottery game. Ruiz decided to buy one for himself and picked the opposite numbers that were on his father’s ticket.

The lottery says a few hours after the drawing, the family discovered that Ruiz Sr. was a $100,000 winner because his quick-pick ticket did not match ANY of the twelve winning numbers. Later that night, Ruiz Jr. realized that his ticket matched ALL of the winning numbers, meaning he was also a $100,000 winner.

“It’s a miracle, a true gift from God,” said Ruiz Sr. His son says he prayed to his mother, who passed away a few years ago, for the money to visit her burial site in Texas.

“The first thing we are going to do is visit her and erect a nice memorial stone to her,” he said. “This is a wonderful gift that will allow us to re-invest in the family.” Ruiz Jr. is the oldest of eight siblings.

The state lottery says this is the first time that tickets matching all of the winning numbers and none of the winning numbers were sold for the same drawing.
